LEGAL / PRIVACY
Privacy Policy
Effective and last updated: July 18, 2026
1. Who we are
This policy explains how Sounding Japanese with Kage (“Kage,” “we,” or “us”) handles personal information through the Sounding Japanese with Kage website, free resources, and Phrase Trainer (the “Service”).
2. Information we collect
- Email and account information: your email address, account identifier, sign-in records, and source or campaign information associated with registration.
- Marketing choices: your email address, consent time, the list or resource you requested, and referral or campaign information.
- Learning information: phrases started or completed, saved progress, review history, SRS schedule, audio and search interactions, and related timestamps.
- Purchase information: product, amount, currency, payment status, and identifiers supplied by our payment provider. We do not directly store full payment-card details.
- Messages: the category and text of feedback or support requests, an optional reply email, the referring page, and submission time.
- Usage and device information: pages viewed, buttons used, referral and campaign parameters, approximate location derived from network information where enabled, browser or device information, cookies, and similar identifiers.
3. How and why we use information
We use information to provide requested resources; authenticate users; save learning progress; operate SRS, search, and audio features; process purchases and access rights; answer messages; secure and troubleshoot the Service; measure and improve content and user flows; comply with law; and send marketing email only when you have requested or consented to it.
Depending on where you live, our legal basis may be performance of a contract, your consent, compliance with legal obligations, or our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Service. For visitors in the EEA, UK, and other regions requiring prior consent, non-essential analytics is based on consent. You may withdraw analytics consent through Cookie settings and unsubscribe from marketing email at any time using the link in an email.
4. Service providers and disclosures
We use service providers to run the Service, including Supabase for authentication and database services, Kit for email lists and delivery, Stripe for payment processing, PostHog for product and website analytics when configured, and hosting or infrastructure providers. These providers may process information outside the EEA, including in Japan or the United States. Where required, transfers rely on an adequacy decision, Standard Contractual Clauses, or another lawful safeguard. You may contact us for information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
We may also disclose information when required by law, to protect users or the Service, in connection with a business reorganisation, or with your direction or consent. We do not sell personal information for money.
5. Cookies and analytics
The Service uses essential browser storage and cookies for sign-in, security, remembering access to requested resources, and storing your privacy choice. These are necessary to provide features you request. PostHog analytics uses cookies or local storage only after you select “Accept analytics.” Rejecting analytics does not affect ordinary use of the Service. You can accept, reject, or withdraw analytics consent at any time through Cookie settings in the footer.
6. Retention
Feedback submitted through the website is scheduled for deletion after 12 months. We otherwise retain account and learning information while an account is active or as needed to provide the Service; marketing records until you unsubscribe or they are no longer needed; and transaction, security, and legal records for the period required to resolve disputes and meet legal, tax, or accounting obligations. We may retain de-identified or aggregated information where it no longer identifies you.
7. Security and children
We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no online service is completely secure. The Service is not directed to children under 16, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact us.
8. Your choices and rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access, correction, deletion, restriction, or portability; object to processing; or withdraw consent without affecting processing already carried out lawfully. You may also lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority in the EEA country where you live or work, or where you believe an infringement occurred. To make a request, contact us using the details below. We may need to verify your identity, and some information may be retained where legally required.
9. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the Service changes. We will post the revised policy here and update its date, and will give additional notice when required. Privacy requests may be sent through soundingjapanesekage.support@gmail.com.
